STORIES THAT INSPIRE A BETTER WORLD

dental-van

Right outside of our doors, families are battling the intense pain, complications, and socio-economic challenges that come with severe dental problems.

As untreated dental issues progress, many uninsured people with dental crises turn to emergency rooms for pain relief. ERs are not properly equipped to treat dental problems and is also costly for both patients and hospitals – approximately $765 per ER visit.

Kuni Lexus of Portland is proud to sponsor Medical Teams International’s Mobile Dental program which has been able to dramatically reduce ER expenses for uninsured patients with dental disease, providing effective treatment at an average $100 – $125 per patient. Utilizing fully-equipped vans are staffed by licensed dentists, hygienists and dental assistants who generously volunteer their time, and we work with over 300 community partners to arrange urgent care dental services.

Recently we had 2 little brothers that came to the van with very significant dental problems that were causing both of them pain. The MTI dental team removed 4 infected and painful baby teeth from the younger brother and recommended future treatment for the other dental issues. His older brother also had significant dental issues; however he was too scared to allow the dentists to perform the work. The school principal and counselor were able to transport the younger brother home after his dental work, and had the opportunity to speak to his mother. They learned that the family immigrated to the United States just 1 month ago as refugees from Guatemala after her husband had passed away. She was incredibly thankful and grateful for the work and care provided by MTI.
